Hideki Kamiya, former Resident Evil director, has had some harsh words for gamers seeking to spoil details about Requiem early.
Kamiya took to X for a fiery post hitting back against the current RE9 leaks that are circulating online, where the Clover and PlatinumGames founder did not hold back. He wrote:
Translated into English, the scathing social media message reads:
For your own selfish satisfaction, you trample on the feelings of the users who are looking forward to the game, as well as the feelings of the creators who put all their effort into making it. It’s a despicable act that destroys the happiness of everyone, and you deserve to die… May you be cursed to never be able to play games again…
It’s harsh. Kamiya advocates that anyone who would deprive horror fans of an authentic experience should not be able to engage with the medium. He may be onto something, as RE9 leaks have been flooding message boards and social media. Reddit threads contain alleged story details, character revelations, and even appear to detail different endings, too. Far from ideal.
Kamiya’s post also details how these vulturous activities of could have impacted Resident Evil 2, stating that: “I’m pretty sure the final developments of Biohazard 2 were also exposed in a weekly photo magazine”. Even nearly 30 years on, some people can’t help but ruin things for others.
Hideki Kamiya was a system planner on the original Resident Evil in 1996 before being promoted to Director for Resident Evil 2. He departed the franchise in 2002 with game design credits for Resident Evil 0 before he would pivot into the likes of Viewtiful Joe, Ōkami, and Bayonetta.
Avoid Resident Evil Requiem spoilers by staying offline
The only surefire way to keep RE9 spoiler free for yourself is to limit your social media usage. It wasn’t hard to find leagues upon leagues of supposed “leaked” information about the upcoming game. The Resident Evil Requiem release date is this Friday (February 27, 2026), so there’s only a few days you would need to lock yourself away.
RE9 is something of a hybrid for the storied horror franchise. It sees the return of fan favorite character Leon S. Kennedy, the star of both RE2 and RE4 (and RE6… if you’re counting that one). While he offers conventional third-person action, newcomer Grace Ashcroft features the more timid, first-person survival horror of the previous two games.
We’ll be covering the game in detail with our full Resident Evil Requiem review coming later this week. Until then, Kyusai has already looked at the scariest Resident Evil moments and looked into the Resident Evil remake problem while you wait.
