Developers on Marvel Rivals have established a strict enforcement against mouse macro users on social media, condemning cheaters.
The post from the official Marvel Rivals X account goes into detail about how “some players are using mouse macros during matches” which is said to give cheaters an “unfair extra advantage”.
It’s said that mouse macros in Marvel Rivals “severely undermines game fairness” and “negatively affects the competitive experience of honest players”.
The Marvel Rivals development team has strengthened its anti-cheating and detection capabilities around mouse macros, and (depending on severity), anyone caught cheating like this could face anything from a matchmaking suspension to a permanent ban.
This statement is particularly polemic in its mission, and the development team does not mince words with what this enforcement means for the Marvel Rivals community. It reads:
Let’s be perfectly clear: letting a machine do the work for you is absolutely not “skill.” Macros are just an unfair advantage gained through villainous means.
In other words, there will be harsh punishments for anyone attempting to exploit NetEase’s superhero shooter. Mouse macros generally fall under scripting, where a player has made a deliberate effort to dial in with precise movements, rapid clicks, and machine-like behavior.
The right decision for the popular comic book shooter
It may seem harsh, but Marvel Rivals was long overdue for this pushback against the small, toxic community of cheaters in its ranks. While less common in casual games, anyone playing its Ranked mode risked encountering players who were playing suspiciously.
Threatening cheaters with anywhere from Matchmaking suspensions to temporary, long-term, or permanent bans might be brutal; however, it’s the only way to enforce a level playing field for a competitive game that’s as popular as Marvel Rivals, lest it suffer a similar fate to CS2‘s Premier mode.
Since its launch over a year ago, Marvel Rivals has maintained steady popularity. NetEase’s comic book shooter routinely pulls in over 100,000 players on Steam alone and has maintained a consistent player base over the last year. Getting hardline now will only gain the respect of the faithful.
The game recently launched into Season 7, called The Hunt is On, as Spider-Man’s love interest (and occasional villain) Black Cat joins the fold. Clearly, the drip-feeding of iconic comic book characters helps sustain longevity; previous updates saw the likes of Deadpool, Rogue, and Gambit enter the fray.
