Having decent quality trading card sleeves is essential as a TCG fan, no matter if you’re a competitive player, a card collector, or a mishmash of the two. Keeping cards sleeved helps prevent them from getting damaged and makes them look nicer in a binder as well.
However, it’s not always a case of popping your cards in whatever you can find – some TCG sleeves work better than others. If you’re a collector looking to keep your cards in good nick, the Vault X Ultra Clear Soft Sleeves are worth your time. I checked out a sample at the London Card Show XL 2026, courtesy of the LCS team.
Simple but effective
Events like London Card Show XL are always a good way to get a feel for the latest TCG products on the market and have a chat with some of the folks representing the best brands in the process.
While I usually leave events like this with enough new cards to start my own local game store, much to the chagrin of my bank account, I ended up leaving this particular event with a barrage of TCG accessories.
Courtesy of a neat LCS goodie bag, I got to check out a pack of the Vault X Ultra Clear Soft Sleeves, and found them to be the perfect solution for keeping my cards tidy in my binder.
I’m less of a competitive player and more of a collector, and I love keeping my collection organized on its display pages. Keeping cards in sleeves when you put them in a binder can help them look tidy and more uniform at a glance, and it can make it easier to create interesting display pages, too.
The ultra-clear sleeves from Vault X are simple penny sleeves, but they offer a solid level of protection for cards, feeling surprisingly thick and premium to the touch. They’re soft and easy to use, and I didn’t find much resistance when putting them on my cards.
There aren’t any visual motifs or Vault X brand designs to note, which is to be expected for penny sleeves.
I had planned to use these exclusively for my Pokémon cards, but found that they fit nicely on similarly sized cards, like the Kakawow Chiikawa cards that I picked up at LCS, despite the latter being slightly thicker and heavier than the former.
If you’re a competitive player rather than a collector, I’d suggest looking for a sleeve with a more matte finish.
These sleeves are glossy and somewhat slidy, meaning they could be easy to drop if you’re shuffling during a match. Players who prefer their sleeves to have a little more grip may not enjoy using these.
For collectors and casual players like myself, though, sleeves like the Vault X Ultra Clear Soft Sleeves are worth it. They’re high-quality and light, and their sizing makes them easy to use without needing to line up your cards too precisely.
